I’ll bet that little cozy house is pretty hot these past few days. Or did you put in a little air conditioner?
I don’t have one of these here yet to post on My Birds Blog but I got a new birdhouse like you have. I watched and heard the dog barking. That just adds to the worries of the little birds about to enter into this strange new world. I thought I heard the parents encouraging the baby but maybe it wasn’t them. Nice clip.
Maybe he just has stage fright! All those cameras and lights!
and of course he knows you frequently write dialog and is prob worried about his lines.. I think it is really neat that you captured this on video..how neat for your little ones to be able to watch this again…and remember their little blues!!
Do you think you will see one more brood being raised in this house this summer?
Don’t you just love those sweet little sounds they make? I wouldn’t come out either with that big dog barking in the background ;-)
Thanks so much for this; i would have loved to have seen my little baby blues leaving their nest; i’m guessing when they leave the nest it is real early in the morning. I now miss my little bird friends
I have two little guys that just left the nest in my backyard but are to afraid to fly. They’ve been down on the ground two days with both parents trying desparately to get them to fly. I’m getting concerned with them and cat possibly passing through the yard. Hope they fly soon.
I’m w/ Bird Girl – I think the barking dog scared him! Love the video of him popping his head in and out! So sweet!
Dave,
Our two baby bluebirds left the nest sometime between Saturday evening and noon on Sunday. We haven’t seen them since and only today saw Mom and Pop again. Pop perched on the nesting box like he was looking for the babies, but didn’t go in and Mom just perched on a shepherds hook nearby; then they both flew up into a large tree nearby. Do you think the babies are okay somewhere? We put some more mealworms out on the feeder tray in the hope that Mom and Pop will bring the babies back to feed sometime. We are wondering when we should clean out the nesting box. I’ve read different things online. We don’t want to wait too long because we’d love to have Mom and Pop nest in the box again. Your thoughts? Thanks. Lisa
Lisa, you are experiencing what is sometimes called Bluebirding 101. The parents have led the new fledglings to safety high up in the treetops. For the next 10-14 days, you will most likely not see the baby bluebirds at all. They will “learn the ropes” of being a bluebird out in their new world and stay well out of sight. About two weeks from now, the whole group will return to your feeder and you’ll love it…but for now, you get to go through bluebird withdrawal. :-( We just got through our two weeks, and the babies returned this morning (after fledging later in the day of the video you saw up above – June 19). In the meantime, definitely clean out your nestbox and hose it down. You should still get one more brood this summer!

Oh Dave, He ALMOST did it. He wanted to SO much… I hope you all were able to watch long enough to see him fledge. I have never seen one fledge before.
Thanks for a great video.
Hugs,
