Another bluebird photo session…

Bluebird: Hi, Dave! Can we try that picture thing again today? It’s just me, and it’s gorgeous out here!

Dave: Sure, that would be great! I love taking pictures of you guys.

Bluebird: Thanks. Let me just get fixed up here. This will only take a minute…

Dave: Okay.

Bluebird: (still getting ready)

Dave: Do do doo…..do do doo…..

Bluebird: Now, I’m ready. How do I look, Dave?

Dave: Great, but you looked fine at the start.

Bluebird: Can you zoom in a little, Dave. This shot is too far.

Dave: Picky, picky. Who’s running this photo shoot, anyway?

Bluebird: That’s better. I want one with my GQ pose…what do you think?

Dave: Makes you look sophisticated. Very impressive for someone who eats worms.

Bluebird: I’ll pretend I didn’t hear that. It would be a shame for this deck to suddenly start getting used for some family target practice…bathroom bombing raids, if you get my drift.

Dave: Yikes! So, any other poses? How can I be of service?

Bluebird: That’s more like it. I’d like one of my backside please. I have beautiful blue on my wings, you know.

Dave: Very true. Could you turn slightly for me though? The sun’s not as good on that side.

Bluebird: Like this?

Dave: Perfect! That’s a nice one!

Bluebird: Great. Let’s get one of me in the red plate too, for old times sake.

Dave: Looks good. Anything else?

Bluebird: Nope, that does it for me. I think there’s a bunny waiting.

Rabbit: I’m a rabbit actually, not a bunny. I thought a “blue jay” would know that.

Bluebird: Watch it, bunny rabbit. You’re fast, but my bombing aim is pretty good.

Rabbit: You bluebirds are so rude. You didn’t even thank Mister Dave. Think of all he does for you guys! Food, shelter, fresh water… Us rabbits have to fend for ourselves!

Bluebird: Good call, Rabbit. Get your picture, then I’ll take one of Dave and his family.

Rabbit: CHEESE!!!

Dave: Thanks, Rabbit. Very nice.

Bluebird: Okay, gather the whole family, Dave! Let’s see if you guys can do better than we did the other day.

Dave, Mrs. Dave, and Boys: CHEESE!!!

Bluebird: Awesome! Here you go Dave. And thanks…thanks for everything!

Dave: You’re welcome. And great job on our family photo! I’d been wanting one of those.

Bluebird: Hey, have you noticed we’ve put some eggs in the box again? You’ll have to come over and get some pictures soon…gotta fly. Later, Dave!

What great pictures of the real birds, the rabbit and the family “birds”….
All are pretty good looking, I must say!!!!

Oh Dave, you should write some books… maybe children’s books with lots of pictures. This post is just fabulous!!! I laughed and laughed… TOO cute…

So your bluebirds have already started another nest???? Wow–they are fast, aren’t they??? When did the babies fledge???? Mine should fledge the first week in June. I’d love to see them—but I have a feeling they leave early in the morning… Don’t know if I can get up that early!!! ha

Great picture of the family.
Hugs to all,
Betsy

Beautiful.Your birds are well trained.
Blessings,Ruth

Nice conversation you had with the bluebird. I especially loved the human family photo. Can’t believe how fast that littlest Tarheel is growing!

Love your conversation with these beauties! I love to put captions under photos of our birds, so I was smiling reading yours. I have some cute photos of a baby mockingbird who came and sat on our deck a few years ago–he stayed and stayed and I snapped away. In one of our photos, he was facing left–I wrote under it: “This is my good side.” Then, in the very next photo, he was facing right, and so I wrote under it, “This is my other good side.” I was laughing at my own goofy comments–you know you’re in trouble when you start doing that, eh?! LOL Your family photo is wonderful–the bluebirds did a great job on that one!

You’re getting to be quite a pro with those bluebird pictures! Very, very nice and I like your funny comments, too! But the family portrait at the end is the best of all!

This is GREAT. Enjoyed very much. I am getting ready to post about the birds in the church parking lot…come on over and take a look when you get a moment!

I have had the pleasure of watching a pair of bluebirds nesting in my bluebird box. The first fledglings left the nest on the 21st of April and we had our first egg of the second nest on May 1st. We also had the joy of two fledglings returning to the feeder with the parents! On May 20th we had 5 baby birds! I was so excited and faithfully fed them at least twice a day (sometimes more often). Sadly, I did not see the female on Sunday evening or Monday morning so I checked the box to find an empty nest!!!

I am heartbroken and feel terrible that I did not have a baffle on my house. I foolishly thought that nothing could get up that metal pole but I was very wrong. Now I am told that if a snake went into the nest it very likely got the female as well as all 5 babies. PLEASE put a baffle on your nesting box so this does not happen to you. I have and I only hope that I will have another opportunity to witness such a blessing again!

Wow Dave! The pictures of the Eastern Bluebird were gorgeous! We have seen one a couple of times but he doesn’t stop long enough for a photo shoot : ) We’ll keep working on it. Anyway, loved your beautiful photos! We did get some Indigo Buntings, which I posted on my blog.

Dave,
I think I’m starting to worry about you..lol..these conversations you are having with birds and rabbits!!! You didn’t fall down a big hole over the weekend did you..go to a party with big hats and get chased by a deck of cards??
What a wonderful post!! You sure got some great poses by the blues and you know I think I could actually hear them talking to you!! oops gotta go…Im late, Im late …4 a very imp date!!

Hi, Dave!

What great baby blue bird pictures!

Quick question: Because our house is on the market, we’ve held back on putting up our blue bird house. However, the blue birds have been flying around our yard like they are waiting for it. Is it too late to put up the box for this season?

Sure hope not!

Very cute Dave!! That bluebird was definitely a poser! LOL!
Cute family photo!!

I have a lot of young starlings doing things starlings do. No blue birds anywhere around. Your photos are special because it is about as close as I will get to Bluebirds.

I am opening up my coopers hawk blog. I have a long way to go to get all the pictures in it but I have started.

Hey Dave, do you think your station will change your posiion to the commedian. Your wife must be in stitches all of the time. As you know I love the bluebirds and you do a wonderful job with them. Gorgeous.
Glad we finally got to meet the family. The setting is just perfect!!
BTW…you asked about the Indigo Bunting diet. They seem to enjoy the white millet and niger seed the most, kind of like the finches eat. But I still haven’t seen a female!

Thank you everyone! You encourage my attempts at humor with all your kind words. :-)

Betsy, they fledged on April 30 (day 19). Your day is coming soon!

Pam, I totally agree about the baffle. We already have one that is specifically designed to keep out snakes (and others). Click here for a picture:

Tina, there was this Mad Hatter character…

Diane, hi mom! Nope, never too late to put up a bluebird box. Nesting season will last into July and sometimes even early August around here. :-)
