More baby bluebird pictures…

Just a few pictures to show you quickly this evening… These were from Friday morning, and half of them were taken by my wife, including the one up above. The baby blues are around more and more these days, so it’s definitely a fun time to be watching. Looks like I’ve got some work to do on the cleaning front there on the deck rail and nestbox roof. Sorry bout that! Anyway, gotta run. More pics coming soon! Dave

Oh how cute, Dave. The babies really do look so different than the Mama/Papa… I love that top one with the baby with its mouth open.
We had a baby Robin on our deck rail yesterday.. The Mama/Papa came by to feed him. He stayed there for about an hour. I’ll show pictures of them, sometime this week.
Hugs to you and your sweet family.
Have a great day.
Betsy
Those are wonderful shots..your wife does a great job with the photos! I like them because they are up close!
Love the pictures!!! Isn’t it wonderful to have them bring their fledglings to the dish???!!! Great capture!
Abraham Lincoln, the mealworms we’re using are all alive and not the freeze dried kind. I haven’t tried ordering online yet, I’ve just been getting them from Wild Birds Unlimited. Kind of expensive, though, but we’re rationing them! :-)
Thank you everyone for all the kind words!
Dave,
You sure are collecting a wonderful library of blue bird pictures!! We will have to call you the blue bird whisper!!
I don’t think I will ever get bored of looking at that wonderful hue the male carries on his back..that first picture says it all..tell your wife she really captured a gem!!
That’s coll Dave, very nice and funny pictures! I’m happy that you could show us these nice pictures of this chicks!! Cool and thanks!
Sweet, sweet photos, Dave. I have so enjoyed the babies. Look forward to seeing them help out with the next family. Hey…guess what I ordered for my husband? A piece of the Final Four court! Autographed, no less.
Hi! I am definately in unfamiliar territory! I was in my backyard swimming with my daughter and literally watched baby bluebirds get kicked out of the nest into the corner of our yard. my dog went right after them, therfore having to remove them from the yard and placed them in a box. I have since left them in a box outside close to the tree in which they fell where the dog cant get them in hopes the parents may feed them. If they dont, what is something thats good to feed them? I see these mealworms above. what are they and where would I get them if need be? These baby bluebirds are on the verge of flying, but ubfortunately not there yet and am just trying to get them off safely!!
Shana, hello! Good save on the quick rescue. I’m betting that your baby blues may have already flown by now, but if not, you can get mealworms at a local bird store. Wild Birds Unlimited is a chain store that sells them, plus you can probably find them at larger pet stores. They’re expensive, though…ours also eat small peanut pieces and sunflower seeds (already without the shell). Good luck!
Last year our babies mamma was killed by a cat. We turned the babies over to a lady in our area who fosters song birds. She told me that the heads of the mealworms must be crushed (or cut off) before feeding them to the babies. She said that the parents crush the heads before feeding to the babies. We have a new family this year & we are watching them closely.
Karen, wow…never heard that before about the mealworms. Very cool that the parents would do that! Glad you’ve got a new family to enjoy. :-)

Do you buy those freeze dried bugs/worms? It looks like them in the photo. Nice shots. I got a bluebird house but looks like I am going to have to wait until next spring to get any of them here.
