Bluebirds feeding nestlings video

Well, by now you’ve guessed that last Thursday on day 19, those cute little bluebirds finally left the nest. Sadly, I once again missed the big event. They must have gone at the crack of dawn, which is earlier than even I get out there (I’ve been out about 6 or 6:30 trying to catch it). Alas, they are now high up in the treetops learning survival skills from mom and dad for the next 10 days or so. I’m still hoping to get some pictures of them to you, but in the meantime, here’s a little video I put together of the parents feeding the babies from about two weeks ago. Hope you enjoy!  Dave

Very cute. Almost as sweet as your last post with big brother feeding the little brother. Wouldn’t it be great if every baby had such a terrific big brother?

Very interesting video.Too bad you missed the moment of fledging.
Blessings,Ruth

I loved it, thank you so much. That made my day!!

Thanks for the video. They are beautiful birds…we don’t get them up here! Plenty of Blue Jays tho!

Great video! I was surprised how “herky jerky” they move about! I clicked on your video to see you hand feeding the bluebird – nice! But he did look like he was in a hurry to leave your hand… Maybe we should assign points for how long the bird stays there – LOL!
P.S. I don’t think those Grosbeaks will ever eat out of my hand. I’ve been coming close w/ the nuthatches though…

LOVED the videos Dave! You lucky duck you…eating out of your hand! We will have to call you the bb whisper!!
I am still battling house sparrows who insist they want to nest in my blue bird house!! hs 1 .. Tina 0!
Sorry you didn’t get to see them fledge..but maybe they will return for a second run in your bb house!!

How incredible, Dave!! I appreciate this so much since I have such a diffcult time getting these birds to habitate in my area. I love their delicate song.

BTW…I was sincerely touched by the comment you left on my blog. I guess I was totally unaware of this. Thank you, Dave!!

Oh Dave…I really enjoyed your video..especially since I can’t seem to entice the Bluebirds to nest in the new nesting box I put up. I had my Great Crested Flycatchers back…but they’ve now abandoned the nesting box. What happened I’ll never know…it remains a mystery to me. (bummer!)

BTW…I took those pics from a boat not too far from Carolina beach. There was a small island that the Brown Pelicans chose to nest on this year. It was a bird cruise that my sister bought me a ticket for on my birthday. It was supposed to take us to Battery Island where thousands of Ibis nest and quite a few Great Egrets…however they chose not to nest their this year…fickle birds! haha If you want to check it out here is the website:

That was a great video! The two of them carefully braving the deck rail to get meal worms while you are filming was so cute! You’ve done an excellent job documenting your bluebird nest!
