Baby bluebirds peeking out… but not flying out

Well, they’re thinking about it, but no one has flown the proverbial coop yet! It’s day 17 here at bluebird central, and so far we have no takers on life in the outside world. The current preference remains co-habitating with four other brothers and sisters in a crowded, stuffy, HOT (90 degree temps here the last three days) nestbox. To be fair, it does come with free meal delivery and maid service, so maybe the choice is a little harder than it appears. Silly bluebirds, come on out!

If you go too close to the nestbox right now (speaking hypothetically of course), you get dive-bombed, snapped at, and a chorus of loud, angry chattering from mom and pop. Would you cross this angry mama bluebird below? Me neither. That’s why the close-up picture above would only have been taken with a very powerful zoom lens and never at a distance of about, say, three feet from her nestbox. Wait…I don’t have a powerful zoom lens…

Finally, we celebrated a fun family milestone in the last week…the seventh birthday of our oldest son. That’s my beautiful wife and the guest of honor there below, along with the requested homemade Spider Man cake. Happy birthday to our firstborn son!  Dave

It is amazing they hatch and leave the nest in such a short period of time. Thanks for posting these for us. Happy birthday to your son. He is a cutie.

Happy Birthday Eldest Son… Your wife is gorgeous, Dave—and it’s no wonder that you have such handsome sons.

Congrats on the Bluebirds… That little one peeking out is just so precious. Today there were 2 eggs in our feeder and today makes 3…

You’ll have to keep up with mine now!!!! ha

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Big Brother!!! Seven is a wonderful age to be.

Uh, Dave…are you waiting for the speckled eggs to hatch before you ID them for us?

Sorry, Carolyn, just a failure to follow through on my part! I’ve been back to the nest twice but havn’t been able to get a picture of the mama bird yet. Hang in there, I’ll tell you before June for sure.

Very informative and nice snaps of the bird.
