Growing baby bluebirds…day 11

Greetings again to those of you following this little bluebird adventure! Can you believe how big these birds are getting and how fluffy they’re starting to look? Amazing! You can really tell their size change by how they’re showing up in the mirror reflection above. When we first started this biology lesson, the little nestlings were deep down in the nest. Now they’re bubbling over and out!

The coolest thing to me today is how you can really see some blue in the feathers now. This closeup of the bird in the upper right corner shows the beginnings of that beautiful color we all love so much. I’m not sure what that orange spot is in the bird on the left there in the first picture…looks odd. Well, I had said that day ten would be the last chance to peek inside, but I found another bluebird source that says day 12 is the cutoff date for nestbox checks, so we’ll go with that one. One more peek inside tomorrow! Dave
