I agree they are very cute. They come every day to my feeder. This past week I have one who is much smaller and much lighter in coloring. I don’t know if this is a juvenile or something else altogether. The markings are definitely the same, it’s just the size and color shades that are different.

Mine are red-breasted and white-breasted. I have yet to see a brown-headed nuthatch here. You have a couple of nice ones there. Now I must remember what eats safflower seed.

Nice pics of some great little birds! I also love my nuthatches. We’ve had quite a few of them this winter, both brown-heads like yours and also white-breasted nuthatches. They’re playful little acrobats. I’m quite jealous of your hand-feeding story. I can get within a few feet of mine but have never fed them by hand.
