Bluebirds building a nest

It’s official, we have a bluebird nest! No eggs yet, but the female blue has built a full cup of pine straw and grass inside our bluebird box. Can’t wait for another season of baby bluebirds! Dave

Dave, You lucky duck,,you!! I am still waiting for their arrival. We saw one pair the other day..but my yard wasn’t their destination :(
Just love those nest building pics..amazing it could fly with all that straw in it’s face!! You would think this and that sticking out beyond your face would throw off your perspective.. like a dog with a long stick in his jaw trying to get thru the doorway onto the patio!! lol.
Hope everyone is doing fine at your house!!
Happy Spring!!
Oh Dave, I’m so jealous. I will say that we have seen both male and female bluebirds checking out our nest recently… BUT–so far nothing more than that… I hope and pray they nest in our back yard–like they did last year…
Love the pictures of your birds with their nest pieces in their mouths… CUTE!!!

I have never yet seen a bluebird here in my backyard though I have had some houses suitable for them. It must be something else. If you have gone to My Birds Blog, you can see what has been here.
This is wonderful news.Hope you will be able to show pictures of the nest activities.
Blessings,Ruth
Janice, it is time! Bluebird nestboxes are different than regular bird houses. Here’s a link that will give you all the info you need:
http://www.sialis.org/nestboxguide.htm
The Sialis site in general is absolute gold for anyone wanting to learn about bluebirds. Tons and tons of tips, links, do’s, don’ts, pictures, etc. Go there first and then click around til you find exactly what you need.
Bluebirds like open spaces, so it’s probaly not one that’s nesting in your garage. More likely a house finch, house wren or just Donald. :-)
That is exciting, Dave! I can’t wait to see our blue babies, too – I just ordered 5,000 mealworms today!
Whoa, 5,000! That’s a lot of mealworms! Where’d you order them from and for how much? I’ve been using Wild Birds, getting about 500 or 1,000 at a time, but I know there’s better value elsewhere…

Eek! It’s time already? I just read that we should be putting bluebird houses up. And I wondered, “Are bluebird houses different than other bird houses?”
I was browsing your latest blog and realized I could ask YOU!
*Do you think it’s a bluebird who is trying to “nest” in my garage?
Best,
Janice
