Female bluebird posing in the snow

Here are some more of our wintry pics from the fun snow on Monday morning. Most of it’s melted by now…just a few lingering spots left in the shade. I’m always sad to see it go, but it sure was beautiful to see!

On Tuesday’s blog, the male bluebird got all the love, so today I’m spotlighting our elegant female. She doesn’t need a snowy Bradford pear tree backdrop, but it sure doesn’t hurt either!

We’ve started seeing more goldfinches lately. They’re one of my wife’s favorites, so we’re glad to have them around again. It’s always fun to watch the males go from a wintry olive color to their gorgeous summer yellow. Right now they’re just starting to brighten up.

Still haven’t gotten a great picture of our six-year-old feeding the Carolina wren yet, but this one shows you that he’s really doing it. That little bird will actually climb up onto the threshold of our deck door now and look inside through the glass… “Where’s my peanut delivery?” he says. This photo also demonstrates an effective way to lose heat from your house on a cold day.

And from the “ask and you shall receive department,” these last three are dedicated to my Aunt Ann down in Bonita Springs, Florida who wanted to see “the boys.” Eat some orange crunch cake for us, AA!

Remember that Dook-UNC is Sunday afternoon, and you know who we’ll be rooting for! Go Heels! Dave

As much as I love seeing your birds, I also love seeing your sons, Dave. SO gorgeous!!!!
Love the snowman also!!!! And that female bluebird doesn’t look too happy out there in the cold…
Hugs,
Betsy
Thanks for sharing your pics Dave… my backyard and deck have been bustling as well with bluebirds and hundreds of finches enjoying all the suet I put out during the storm! : )
This post was cuteness overload!! I think that bluebird knows exactly where to pose! Love your trained Wrens! Maybe I should send you some of that YUMMY cranberry pecan bread from Zingermans. I guarantee there will be 100 wrens begging for that stuff!! LOL!!! P.S. Other than my stepson – I would say you have 2 of the cutest boys ever.
Oh, that poor blue bird sitting out in all that cold SNOW, I’m sure she is wishing for warm sun and meal worms!! lol Glad you enjoyed your winter wonderland..your pictures sure are pretty!! That’s the way a storm is suppose to hit..fast, beautiful and outta there!! :)
Your guys sure are a handsome pair..that little guy isn’t staying little very long!! ..and I couldn’t believe your pic of #1 son so close to feeding the wren!! Pretty cool!
Are you crying for joy or sorrow that poor TO is looking for another home! I’m sure there’s another sucker team out there for him to destroy!!
That Carolina wren is so cute!
Yes, that is an effective way to lose heat, but what can you do? The wrens must be fed.
That baby has some red hair!! :)
Wonderful photographs…the birds and the children. I’m sure your son enjoyed the snow.
Oh, the game will be something, won’t it? Senior day and Dook with a grudge. GO HEELS! BTW: are you an alum? Both of us are from many years ago.
How lovely! A female bluebird in a snowy Bradford pear tree – lucky you!
That is the sweetest thing to see your boy feeding the little Carolina wren! If you get a good shot you should send it to Birds & Blooms – I’m sure they will publish it in the magazine. I’ve seen lots of different birds being hand fed – but the Carolina wren – I don’t recall. Very cool!
And your boys are beautiful!!! If I were that baby – I would love nothing better than having big brother smile at me! So precioius!!!
You should have saved that last one for St. Patrick’s Day ;-)
Thanks everyone!
NCMW, yes we are alums, too! UNC is where we met. Love the campus…what a gorgeous place Chapel Hill is in the spring! (Great game this past Sunday!)
Tina, kind of neutral actually. He was a good receiver for us but definitely brought his share of trouble. I think Dallas could have used him better than they did. That said, congrats to the Buffalo Bills, proud new (foolish) owners of TO.
More cute pics of the boys coming soon!
Thank You so very much for the adorable Heiser boys pictures! They bring joy to this old gal’s heart!
You are truly blessed with talent and a wonderful call to share your love and appreciation of God’s handiwork Dave! The waxwings are indeed a gorgeous bird with striking markings. For the upside down birds captions. or or I like the other perspective better>
Loved your thoughts on the bird feed usage for sqirrels..t’was fun to think of for a second. Love to all, Aunt Ann
Hi Sue, just a regular Canon A620 Powershot with the built in zoom. The birds have gotten accustomed to us, so I’m shooting typically from less than 10 feet. Thanks for asking!

I enjoy seeing the pictures of your family. The birds of course are great as well.
