Yellow-rumped bully?

“Me, a bully? C’mon, Dave, I’m so little!” Don’t believe it, folks. This small bird packs a punch, and right now he (or she…not sure) acts like he owns the place. Any bird equal or smaller in size will get a swift chasing off the deck and out of the nearby tree it flees to. If he wasn’t such a cute bird, we’d put him in the same class as our mockingbird…a greedy pest. I still like him though but my wife, not so much. We’ve seen him run off house finches, chickadees, siskins, and juncos. A titmouse refused to be bullied this morning, and the bluebirds will just about land on top of him to get him to move out of the way.

Speaking of bluebirds, they are very active these days and routine visitors to the deck and nearby nestbox. In and out of the nestbox they go, and we wonder how long it will be until nest building commences…that will be fun! Also fun has been the little Carolina wren that has started eating peanuts out of my hand. I’ve fed him six or seven times in the last two weeks! Hopefully we’ll get a good picture to show you soon. Have a great weekend! Dave

Send your little butter butt bully to my house! I’ll whip him right into shape! Actually – I’ll just let him rule the roost just and do anything he likes if he poses for me!!! I look high and low – near and far for these wonderful little warblers. And you? Ya get one without even trying! Not fair ;-)
Love the bluebirds, always!
How can such a gorgeous little bird be such a BULLY???? What a Cutie Pie!!!!! I’ll bet your older son loves watching that bird!!!!
Our Bluebirds aren’t here yet.. I hope they come SOON.. It’s still pretty cold up here.
Have a great weekend.

That photograph says it all…butter butt is in charge! Love the bluebirds. Get your son to take your picture with the wren…or better yet…get your son’s picture feeding the wren.
How about that ACC this year? I’m not sure my heart can take the tournament! It’s anybody’s game on a given night. State shot 64% in the second half and UNC still beat them? Bet Williams is screaming DEFENSE during practice.
Dave,
I feel the same as birdgirl, send him up this way.. I would love to see him or a redpoll..another that many post but I haven’t seen in my yard yet.
..always love the blues..we haven’t seen any around our nest house yet..keeping my fingers crossed tho!!
I can’t wait to see the wren eating out of your hand!!
great pics!! Hope all is going well for you guys!
I can sense his bulliness in the first photo just by his stance! Hilarious!! He’s too cute to be aggressive! Great photos!
hey Dave, long time no talk to. I’m the teacher from Ky. Just wanted to check in with ya and let ya know that I saw my blue birds a few weeks ago. They landed on the box and went in to check it out. I removed their old nest. I hope that was the best thing to do. When should I expect them to start their nest? Sis
Sis, great to hear from you again! Yep, removing the old nest was the right thing to do. Ours have been checking the nestbox quite frequently, and over the weekend I got some pics of the female loading in some grass and pine straw. Looks like nest building season has just begun! Glad you’re seeing yours. :-)
