More birds in the snow!

Here are four more gems from the camera of fellow local bird watcher Dave Bertram. This one above has quickly become one of my all-time favorites! Does anything say winter better than a male cardinal in the snow? Not in my book…

Of course I love the bluebird pictures he shared too! And yes, bluebirds do eat seed, at least here in North Carolina. Ours come to the feeder for peanut halves, sunflower chips, and safflower seeds. Incidentally, we saw all three of our bluebirds yesterday…still being chased mercilessly by that same mockingbird though.

Same deal down here as on Monday…I took the one above and our 6-year-old took the one below. Don’t you love that smile! So sweet, even if he doesn’t fall asleep for good until 2 am. He’s sleeping until 7:30 though, so that’s not too bad. Gotta run, Dave

P.S. Dook plays Wake Forest tonight, so us Tar Heels urge you all to cheer hard for the Demon Deacons! Remember, Dook-UNC game #1 is February 11. Can’t wait!

I just can’t get over those bluebirds eating seed! That would save me some money for sure – haha – mealworms are expensive!
Yes, nothing says winter like a male Cardinal in the snow! Your friend did good!
That baby is so beautiful and with RED HAIR! How blessed you are to have TWO gorgeous little boys!
Hi, Dave!
Love those snow pictures!
Tell your big guy that I think he is a very gifted photographer. He sure can get the best smiles from the little guy! So sweet!
About tonight’s game, there is only one thing I can say:
I’m cheering hard for DUKE!!!
Gotta love those pictures, Dave, even if they were taken in the snow. tee he! All of them are really nice shots..of course my favs are the blues..so cute and innocent looking!!
Can’t believe how big #2 son is getting..and I think you have a natural photographer next to you! Tell him I said wow, what a great picture of his brother!!
I would agree that the Cardinal picture says winter in a beautiful way.To me something doesn’t look right to have a Bluebird among the snow, not to mention at the seed feeder.I guess that is because we only see them in summer.
Blessings,Ruth
I’m still breathless after those two games last night. I was afraid Dook was going to pull it off after all. And the ‘Heels were a bit frustrating, to say the least. Who would have thought Tyler would be benched with three fouls so early? When they blew the big lead, I was very afraid. The ACC games are all so much fun this year. Every game is a potential toss-up.
The little guy is really growing, isn’t he? My own son held on to that 2 am feeding as well. But that long stretch afterward made up for it somewhat.
Thanks one and all for your compliments on our sons and the artistry of Dave Bertram! I’m told that his wife is the feeder of the birds and, as such, deserves some credit, too! :-)
I agree with you ncmw about the games the other night! A heartbreaking loss for Dook with a second left and a UNC buzzer beater to take down Florida State on the road…doesn’t get much better than that! Both endings sure were exciting and great entertainment during an evening bottle feeding!
Hi Dave,
I agreee, nothing says winter better than a male cardinal in the snow. Great photos! Great looking family too!

More great pictures from your co-worker/friend, Dave. I hope our bluebirds come back to nest here in the spring.
Your sons are so good-looking!!! That baby sure is happy. I’m sure it won’t be long ’til he’ll be watching the birds also.
My UT Vols started out so good–but are really struggling now. Oh Well. Good Luck to your heels!!!
