Happy New Year!

From our family to yours, a very happy new year to everyone! Here are a couple bluebird favorites from early this summer and some of my random thoughts right now unrelated to birds… Enjoy!  Dave

- Very excited to be doing this post in front of the NHL Winter Classic on NBC. It’s the second year of a great new tradition…an outdoor hockey game on New Year’s Day. Last year’s was an instant success as Sydney Crosby won it on a penalty shot in the snow as the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Buffalo Sabres. Great game in a Buffalo snowstorm (you know I love the snow) with teams wearing the throwback jerseys. Outstanding! Today it’s the Red Wings and Blackhawks at Wrigley Field in Chicago. The Blackhawks just scored to make it 1-0 early, and they already had a huge hit that sent one of the Detroit players head over heels into the bench! We’re novice and relatively new hockey fans by the way. Our friends the Bonners introduced us to the sport several years ago, and we’ve been able to go to some Carolina Hurricane games…even a Stanley Cup game in 2002!

- Boy, did the Dallas Cowboys lay an egg against the Eagles last weekend. Way to finish, guys! With a playoff spot on the line, they looked completely disfunctional and handed Philly a free trip to the postseason. Ugh…

- Our Tar Heels are looking good right now at 13-0 and #1 in the nation. Tyler Hansbrough and the boys are poised to make another run to the Final Four and finally finish it off with a championship this year.

- Last night, we all spent some time talking about what was good in 2008. It was fun to remember the many blessings of the past year, including our new son, good health for everyone, a great job in a season of growing unemployment, and some fun trips to Florida, Missouri, and Emerald Isle (our favorite North Carolina beach). God has been so good to us!

Happy New Year, Dave. Love your bluebird pictures. Can’t wait til spring–in hopes that ours will come back to nest here again.

I’m from a football family–so I one who is watching football today–although I miss the days of having all of the big bowls today and then having the season OVER. SO–there’s no NHL on at our house today!!! ha..

Your Heels are looking good so far–and so are my YOUNG Tenn. Vols.

About Dallas—they need to get rid of distractions like T.O. and Pacman.

Happy 2009.
Hugs,
Betsy

Love the Blue bird pictures .They make summer feel so-o-o far away, but I know it will be here soon enough.
Blessings,Ruth

As always it is nice to see your bluebirds. I, too, wish Spring was closer..but since Winter just started on the 21st guess we have several months to fill our time!! I received photo elements, for my mac for Christmas …so I guess I will be spending some time learning to use some of those tools! Today was bitterly cold, very windy and so we camped inside and watched football and ate!! Glad some of your teams are doing well, the cowboys will return stronger next yr…and the eagles, I don’t think will go far..enjoy your weekend and keep posting those pics of your blues..never tire of them!!

Your sure did have a good year, Dave! That sweet new baby and his brother! Wow! Love the bluebird pictures! Emerald Isle is our favorite NC beach, too – maybe we’ll see you there someday!

Hi, Dave!

I’m enjoying your blog greatly–especially the account of 2008 and all God’s blessings for your family. And you gotta love that little bluebird being fed by his daddy (or mommy.) Not to mention the big and little brother picture which spoke to my heart as well. Thanks for some very great pictures!

Your bluebird photos were great – they are just such fun birds to watch!

Heartbreaking as it was to read your comment about our (then) undefeated Tar Heels… the rest of this blog post made me smile :-) Happy 2009!
