More birds in the snow!
Here are four more gems from the camera of fellow local bird watcher Dave Bertram. This one above has quickly become one of my all-time favorites! Does anything say winter better than a male cardinal in the snow? Not in my book…
Of course I love the bluebird pictures he shared too! And yes, bluebirds do [...]
Wintry waxwings and snowy bluebirds!
Is there a cooler-looking bird anywhere than a cedar waxwing? These birds are awesome! I just wish that they had flown into our yard. As it is, I’m very thankful for our friend Ben Tangeman for taking these two pictures and letting me use them. They’re such unique birds (and rare here in NC), but [...]
North Carolina Snow!!!
IT SNOWED!!! IT SNOWED!!! Monday night and on into Tuesday, central NC got hit with somewhat of a surprise snowstorm. When the glorious white flakes tragically stopped falling Tuesday afternoon, we had over six inches at our place! AWESOME! Most of it has melted now, but I have many more wintry pictures to share with you over [...]
Nuthatch in a bluebird box?
Hmmmm…not sure how I feel about this one. The bluebird box is sacred territory in the Heiser household, and even a cute, previously unseen, brown-headed nuthatch may not be allowed to stake such a claim as this. It landed on our deck earlier this week, and I was thrilled! Then, I watched it fly over to [...]
Suet disappearing at night…possibly a possum perhaps?
Finally took some fresh pictures this weekend so I’d have something new to post. We made some fresh suet last weekend, but it’s already gone! The titmice and chickadees were all over it (no downy woodpeckers sadly), as were a few squirrels, but we seemed to have a nocturnal visitor a few nights that really just [...]
Bluebirds by request!
Okay, ask and you shall receive! For those of you blessed with my much-coveted snow right now but who are perhaps already dreaming of spring, here are some more summer Eastern bluebirds to help warm you up! All of the pictures are from early June of this year, and most are of the fledglings from [...]
Happy New Year!
From our family to yours, a very happy new year to everyone! Here are a couple bluebird favorites from early this summer and some of my random thoughts right now unrelated to birds… Enjoy! Dave
- Very excited to be doing this post in front of the NHL Winter Classic on NBC. It’s the second year [...]
