Christmas bluebirds and juncos

Normally I wouldn’t steal top-billing from a beloved bluebird, but I really like this picture of a dark-eyed junco on our deck. It was a cold morning and the water has this metallic, icy look to it. Plus, juncos are another family favorite…mostly because they’re only around in the winter. They’re like an old friend returning! Speaking of old friends, our three bluebirds are flying around more and more. It’s still the one male and two females, and boy do they get harassed right now by our mockingbird. You know it’s bad when you have officially given your son clearance to throw rocks at the attacker. We don’t want to kill it, and I don’t think we’ll ever hit it, but we would like to send a strong message of, “Leave the bluebirds alone!!!”

A few other pictures to tell you about…even though our suet is empty and we haven’t made another batch yet (you’d think we were caring for a one-month old as little as we get accomplished), we’ve started seeing more and more frequently this red-bellied woodpecker in our backyard. It hasn’t come to the deck or anything, but the flash of bright red is always exciting. Also exciting, the sunrise this morning was absolutely gorgeous! We seem to see more sunrises these days for some reason…

And of course, I have to include another picture of “the boys” for you to oooh and aaahh over. Good photo opportunities abound with a new baby and caring big brother!

Hope everyone has a joyous holiday, remembering that Jesus is the reason for the season! Merry Christmas!  Dave

Good stuff Dave, Thanks for the blue bird update. I wont tell everyone what my mama does to the squirrels that get into her bird feeders….

What a lovely post. Great bird shots and the sky is wonderful. Your son really knows how to hold an infant. He looks so confident and the baby looks so comfortable.

Beautiful young boys,oh,and the birds look great as well.A sunrise like that almost makes early morninings worth it.That must be God’s way of saying ‘Good-morning’.
Blessings,Ruth

Hi Dave, I check your blog every single day—waiting on a new post. You do have something on your mind now, don’t you???? ha ha… What a cutie–and a great big brother.

Love your pictures … We don’t have juncos I don’t think. At least they don’t come to our feeders. Pretty birds. Our Red-bellied prefers the sunflower and safflower seed to my suet… Well–duh!!!! ha ha

You and your precious family have a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful 2009.
Hugs,
Betsy

Dave,
Wow what a sunrise…almost makes it worth the while to get up that early…don’t suppose a new baby added to the reasons as to why you guys were up..
I would be protecting those blues too if they were in my yard!! You certainly are getting some great photos of the brothers!! Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and got some great bird bibs for that new little fellow!
Have a relaxing week, well try any way and have a safe and healthy New Year!

I hope your bluebirds get some peace this year! Your junco photo was great. Hope you had wonderful Christmas!

I really like the picture of the junco too. The water looks just like quicksilver.

The sunrise colors are magnificent.

Hope you had a good Christmas!
