A red-headed woodpecker gift!

What could be better for a sleepy, new daddy than a kind neighbor who takes brilliant photos of a relatively exotic bird for you? Not much…well maybe a nice two-hour nap, perhaps an anonymous dinner casserole on your front doorstep…alas, I digress! We’ve only seen one of these beautiful woodpeckers in our yard over the last couple years, and that was just a brief appearance. So…how excited was I to get this one from DB? Thrilled! Thanks a ton! Dave

Although we have many woodpeckers, I have yet to see a Red-headed one here in western NC. What a great neighbor!
What a nice neighbor and what a great catch! I’ve never seen a red-headed wp yet but I read on Pabirdlist that they are present in our state..of course I’m still waiting to see a pileated one too! lol wait wait wait…keep those photos coming!!
I would give anything to get this in my yard! I have to travel 3 hours one way to see RWPs! Get out the suet!!! They love it!
Nice picture Dave! IMO the most beautiful and elegant of the woodpeckers. :)
Congratulations on your new birdwatcher!!
I live at the foothills of the NC mountains in Marion. I’ve lived here all my life and remember seeing the redheaded woodpecker growing up. We just had alot of rain and this morning in my back yard I saw 2 male redheaded woodpeckers feeding. I called my husband to the back door to show him. My Mom bless her heart always called them peckerwoods and my husband said his Mom did too, they are beautiful to see.
