Hummingbirds on the horizon…

Happy Monday morning to everyone! Hope y’all had a great weekend full of fun bird sightings. We were on the road again, but here are some pictures from Friday morning at our house. I really like the cardinal on the left here…sometimes cloudy days make for the best photography. You can also see the new birdhouse we built out there on the deck rail now. We’ve already seen a Carolina wren checking it out.mousebird-on-plate-7-25.jpg

Also for your viewing pleasure we have a lovely female cardinal, one of our “mousebirds” at the (famous red seed) plate, and a female house finch. We’ve started seeing a male house finch at our feeder that is either missing an eye or has some sort of a tumor or growth on it. I’d show you the picture, but it’s a little on the gross side. Anyway, we still have the catbirds chasing folks away and no bluebird sightings to report.female-cardinal-in-tree-7-25sm.jpghouse-finch-7-25.jpg

Tomorrow or Wednesday I’m finally going to get our hummingbird feeder up, so I should have some hummers to show you in a couple days. See you then! Dave

Good choice on the color of the plate- white would not have photographed as well!!

Where does one purchase these specialized feeding trays??

Guess who has showed up at my feeder. Yep, it’s one of the fledgings. I guess it heard I was serving mealworms for breakfast.

Kris-goof, the red plate is actually a Dutch antique, purchased in Amsterdam in 1986. The amazing red color comes from a rare tulip grown exclusively in Holland. This may, in fact, be the last one in existence. I must emphasize though, watch out for the easily found counterfeits mass produced by Dixie Plates. Only a trained professional can spot the subtle differences. The plate seen in these photographs has been valued at $1,236 (I was on “Antiques Roadshow” last month). :-)

That’s great news, sis! Woo-hoo!
