Bluebirds coming back again?
Great news! As I was heading out of the house this morning, the male and female bluebird both made an appearance at the deck! Even better was their trip over to the nestbox, which they both entered and re-explored at length. The mama blue was inside for awhile with the male blue hanging on the outside of the box and sticking his head inside. I think we will soon have another bluebird nest! Woo-hoo!!!
The robin nest appears to have survived a strong storm we had the other evening, and the mama is still sitting on those two eggs. Here are some pictures I took from Wednesday morning of a titmouse (right), catbird (below), and one of our skinnier Carolina wrens (bottom right). No red seed plate shots to show you today…sorry! I did see the catbird tangle with a cardinal this morning…kind of a mid-air dogfight, if you will.
The catbird has been kind of ruling the roost with the bluebirds being around less, but I’m hoping that will change now.
Anyway, this particular cardinal looks like he’s been in some other fights or maybe even tangled with the local outdoor cat, so he didn’t back down. Eventually the catbird flew off and the cardinal got his seed.
I’m looking forward to bringing you some fresh bluebird pictures from the weekend! Enjoy your bird watching! Dave

That’s great, sis! Congratulations! Actually seeing one fly out for the first time is a special treat…I’ve missed ours each time. How exciting!
Hopefully they’ve made it to higher ground by now. Maybe the parents were flying around crazy to try to get the little one to a safer spot? Anyway, if all the birds have fledged, then it’s okay to empty out the nestbox. I even read this past weekend that one source recommends a hose flushing out as well (then open it up to dry).
I’m still getting our mealworms from Wild Birds Unlimited, a chain store, but I’m pretty sure it’s much cheaper to order them online. I just haven’t done the research yet. By the way, how many fledglings do you have now?
Three. The first day they stayed in my neighbors hedge. Then I noticed that the parents were flying over in another neighbor’s yard. I’m out of mealworms and the place that I get them here does not have any . They said that it was going to be 4 wks. So, my parents keep coming to the backyard looking to see if I have any out. I’m afraid that they will quit coming around. I cleaned out the box. Maybe mine will come back like yours did Dave. I guess I will just order some on line. I’ve been reading about dried mealworms. Have you tried those.
Never have, sorry. In the meantime, you might try keeping them interested with either suet, sunflower chips, or peanut halves.

Hey Dave, guess what?!! I’ve got baby bluebirds. Hot dog! They fledged today. That’s later that I had calculated. But this is my first time. I’m so excited. I got to see one of them fly out of the box. It flew down to the ground. NOw I will worry about it making it through the days ahead. My neighbors down the street has several cats. I saw the mommie and daddy flying around in mid air. They were acting crazy. I guess they were trying to catch bugs or maybe chasing away other birds in their territory. Dave, should I clean out their box now? Happy to hear your little guys showed back up. I so hope mine stay around. Where do you get your mealworms? Have a great week-end. Later, sis
