Eastern bluebirds yield spotlight to…a robin nest!
Hello again, bird watchers! The news from the weekend is that we have another nest! A robin had built one in a tree right beside our deck without our knowing it, and she is now sitting on eggs. So, after watching the whole process with our beloved bluebirds, it appears we now get the same privilege with a different bird! I know far less about robins, and they’re definitely not one of my favorites, but this still promises to be fun and interesting nonetheless. I’m hoping to get a good look and picture inside the nest for tomorrow, though it will be significantly harder dealing with a tree than with a nestbox…could be an exciting adventure!
An update on the bluebirds…they are definitely more scarce these days without the nestbox being full. Mealworms sit in the feeder much longer now and sometimes go to the titmice or wrens. Still no sight of the brand new fledglings, and the juveniles from the first brood are even harder to glimpse now than the parents. I can hear their sounds up in the trees, but I haven’t seen them since Thursday now (the two bluebird pictures here are from June 19). We did have a lot of rain and storms over the weekend, but I’m hoping they aren’t slowly moving on…makes me appreciate the gift of having them even more!
Well, that’s all for today. Back tomorrow hopefully with pictures of our robin eggs! Dave
