Peeking inside a bluebird nestbox…day eight!

Okay, here are the baby bluebird pictures from this morning, day eight! The feathers are really extending out of the sheaths now, and you can see less and less of the nestlings’ pink skin. I added a couple of extreme close-ups that show the wing and head in super detail. The heads are much more textured now. We should see their eyes opening very soon, too!

I also threw in a few pictures of some of our other visitors from this morning: a chipping sparrow (note the distinctive white eye stripe and the burnt orange streak down the top of the head) and a tufted titmouse. We call them mousebirds in our family. No other wildlife today, but Robert the turtle (see yesterday’s entry below) is doing well. We found out he likes to eat small pieces of tomato! More bluebird pictures tomorrow!  Dave

I am so enjoying the bluebird journey!

Maryann, thanks for keeping up with us! It’s amazing the transformation that occurs in such a short amount of time. By the way, what did you guys decide about moving the nest in the fern plant?
