Eastern Bluebird nestlings three days old!
Well, today is day three, and apparently the remaining eggs are indeed in trouble. I’ve read up on the subject, and if the eggs have gone 72 hours since the others have hatched, then it is best to remove them (so they won’t break in the nest and rot). So, if things are unchanged tomorrow, we will need to take them out. Sad news, but we are still thankful for the three healthy bluebird nestlings that we do have. They are growing fast, and are more and more active. You can hear them peeping as the mama or dad bring them food now. Also, note the development along the spine and the darker color of their heads since day one (see earlier blog entries below). And as you can see, they are ready to eat some food! Fun to watch and share the pictures with you! I’ll have the latest pictures ready for you sometime Monday afternoon or early evening. Bye! Dave
