Pictures of our three baby bluebirds! One day old!

3-bluebird-nestlings-day-1.jpg

Woo-hoo! Here are the promised pictures of our 1-day-old baby Eastern bluebirds! As of late this morning, three of the eggs had hatched, and two were still left. Note how the mama has already moved out the shells from the first three; bluebirds are meticulous nest keepers! The dad has already started his many feeding trips to the nestbox. Hopefully tomorrow I can show you all five bluebird nestlings!  Dave

How precious! What beautiful creatures…how fun for your family! I can’t wait to see them with their soft fur/feathers. Great blogging!

Thanks, Mavis! It’s amazing how quickly they change…and we get a front row seat to watch it all!

I love being able to peek at the babies through your photos! (Sandpiper whose link is on my blog would be a good resource to ask about the bluebird babies.)

The pictures are so amazing and I’m sure it is so much cooler in person! Wow!

Whoa! They are so cool looking. Crazy!

Shelley, thanks for the Sandpiper tip; I will check that out right away!

Tab, good to hear from you! You and your family are all welcome to come over, and we’ll give you a look in person. Maybe the male bluebird will eat from your hand!

Page, the coolness is just beginning! Now get your bird stuff up and get started in your yard. :-) But, you’re always welcome to live through ours, too.

Great photos Dave. After 25 years and numerous boxes, we’ve got a pair of blues nesting inside our birch tree! Can’t see inside, but have been so excited for months watching all the activity. Today we saw 3-4 fledgies trying to balance on phone wires. In the nest building stage, robins were giving the blues the worst time and we thought we’d lose the blues, but they didn’t back down to the robins, yeahhhh! We want them to stay here but the nest is up 30 feet or so. Don’t think hubby wants to climb up that high. Hope they’ll re-use the next or find another hole. Thanks again. Isn’t it a blessing of nature?

Penny, thanks for writing. Wow, you are quite a bluebird veteran with 25 years of enjoying them…what a privilege! We have a catbird that tries to hassle our bluebirds, but the mama blue runs him off every time. Haven’t had any trouble so far with robins though. We are indeed blessed to have these beautiful birds! And God is so good to give us such a neat creation to enjoy!

That’s ugly and cute at the same time!
